오늘은 미국 공립교환을 다녀온 임진아 학생의 이야기를 공유하고자 합니다
진아는 어렸을 적부터 동물을 참 좋아했습니다
집에는 언제나 다양한 동물들이 가족의 일원으로서 함께 있었고
이러한 환경에서 자란 진아는 자연스럽게 사육사가 되어
동물들과 교감하기를 꿈꿔 왔습니다
진아는 작년 8월 한국에서 고3 1학기까지 마친 뒤
처음으로 미국 유학길에 올랐는데요
남들보다는 다소 늦은 시기에 시작한 타지에서의 유학생활은
매 순간 어려움에 대한 도전과 극복의 연속이었다고 합니다
영어와 학업에 몰두하는 것만으로도 부족한 시간에
진아는 호스트 변경도 해야만 했었고
한국에 계신 부모님에 대한 그리움과
먼저 대학생이 된 한국 친구들에 대한 부러움 때문에
몸 고생, 마음 고생 참 많이 했으리라 감히 예상해 보는데요
그래도 진아만의 밝고 씩씩한 마음가짐으로
미국 생활에 적응해 나가면서 재미를 붙여가던 찰나,
올해 4월 한창 미국에서 코로나 바이러스가 폭발적으로
확산되면서 중도귀국을 할 수 밖에 없었습니다
하지만 코로나도 막을 수 없는 사육사가 되고자 하는 꿈은
진아를 귀국해서도 다시 미국에 돌아가고자 마음을 먹게 했는데요
여러가지로 부족함에도 불구하고
최선을 다해 미국 대학에 입학하기 위한 준비를 했습니다
진아가 대학 지원 시 작성했던 에세이 중 일부를 발취하였는데요
“Our environment is ever-changing, and the relationships among its inhabitants are key to our future.” This statement from the Wildlife and Conservation department at Texas A&M University highlights the significance of the wild and nature. This address has caught my attention as it describes the theme of my personal, academic, and professional interests, wildlife. After thorough research about the university, I have developed a strong desire to attend Texas A&M to pursue my passion.

Such personal adherence to animal life bloomed dramatically and my attention moved to the protection of wild animals and nature after the tragedy of the Australian wildfires last year. Countless lives were sacrificed and the well-preserved ecosystem was destructed. Hearing that three billion animals were diminished, I felt an urge to make an effort to restore and sustain the earth’s environment, focusing on wildlife conservation.

That I spent an academic year at an American high school was critical since I started imagining myself as a wildlife manager in the future, going beyond my personal interests. During the year, I enrolled in an Animal Science class in which I had an opportunity to participate in both indoor and outdoor learning. From livestock studies to wool-shearing practices, I explored the field of zoology, animal science, and ecology. As a result, I initiated seeking a path that would guide me to pursue my academic and professional enthusiasm – a wildlife and conservation expert.

I truly believe that i am an ideal candidate for Wildlife and Conservation Science major at Texas A&M. My personal experiences and academic records demonstrate my comprehension of the field of animal and ecology preservation. As Korean, I will share my distinct perspectives about the current environmental issues with other American students and contribute to our learning. Concurrently, I will fully enjoy student life, being part of diverse student organizations. I cannot wait to be a prospective Lucky Lion!

9월부터 1학년 신입생으로서 대학 수업을 듣고 있습니다
요즘은 그 누구보다도 하루하루 즐겁게 보내면서
내년 1월에 대학교 2학기 시작에 맞춰 출국 준비를 하고 있는데요
'무언가 간절히 원한다면 온 우주가 이루어질 수 있도록 도와준다'는 말처럼
우리 진아가 사육사 되는 그 날까지 드림에듀가 함께 응원합니다!
